Each camper chooses four activities called Chugim to participate in each day while at camp. Choose the ones you love or try something new! At Herzl Camp, we specialize in creative programming so there’s always a twist and it’s always unique!

| Beginner Lake Swim
Not everyone can swim across the lake right away. This chug will offer a chance for campers to practice their swimming skills. You will learn new swimming strokes, breathing techniques, and all that it takes to make it across Devil's Lake in the future! |
| Beginner Sailing
Campers will get a taste for sailing by learn the basic skills necessary to sail our fleet of sailboats. Skills include: rigging/de-rigging, points of sail, finding the wind, tacking/jibing, tipping recovery, and more. This chug is for campers who have never sailed before and would like the opportunity to learn more. To participate in this chug a camper must be a medium level swimmer. Swim tests will be done on the first day of camp. At this point if a camper needs to change chugim based on swimming level they will have the opportunity to do so. |
| Herzl Navy Seals
In this chug campers will experience firsthand a small taste of what life may be like in the Navy Seals. These Herzl Navy Seals will participate in missions, learn strength training activities, and experience camaraderie with the other campers. This chug is for those campers ready to take the plunge and give it their all as they become part of an elite group of Herzl campers. To participate in this chug a camper must be a medium level swimmer. Swim tests will be done on the first day of camp. At this point if a camper needs to change chugim based on swimming level they will have the opportunity to do so. |
| Lake Swim
Once a summer Devil’s Lake is conquered. This chug will prepare campers to go the distance, and swim all the way from the opposite side of the Devil’s Lake to Herzl Camp. The weeks leading up to the Lake Swim will be comprised of practice swims as well as endurance and strength building. To participate in this chug a camper must be a strong swimmer. Swim tests will be done on the first day of camp. At this point if a camper needs to change chugim based on swimming level they will have the opportunity to do so. |
| Oar Sports
Campers will learn how to canoe and kayak. They will start out by learning basic techniques such as the different strokes, how to turn, lifting and carrying both a canoe and kayak, as well as tipping. With these skills mastered campers will be allowed to paddle out onto the lake and participate in different races, relays, and games. To participate in this chug a camper must be a medium level swimmer. Swim tests will be done on the first day of camp. At this point if a camper needs to change chugim based on swimming level they will have the opportunity to do so. |
| Sailing
Campers will get a taste for sailing by learning the basic skills necessary to sail our fleet of sailboats. | Shore Sports
This chug is for anyone who loves the waterfront but isn’t sure about getting in the lake every day. Campers will build sand castles, compete in beach games, participate in relay races, and relax while learning the patients and waiting of fishing. Some days campers will get the chance to jump on the water trampoline, or go out on a boat to tour the lake. There is no swimming level required to participate in this chug. |
| Water Aerobics
This is a chug designed to give campers a daily aerobic workout while enjoying the relaxing aspect of the lake. Beginning with stretching and relaxing breathing, campers will learn different strengthening components such as yoga and Pilates along with working out in the water. This chug is a great way to work out while having fun doing so. There is no swimming level required to participate in this chug. |
| Water Sports
Water Sports is for campers who just want to have fun on the waterfront. We will play games in the water such as nuke'em, basketball, volley ball, and participate in relay races. There is no swimming level required to participate in this chug. |
