2008 HERZL CAMP PROGRAMS

(All age groups are entering each grade in Fall 2008)

3rd - 4th Grade Taste of Herzl

One Week June 16 – June 23

Our youngest campers love to get a “taste” of nearly everything that Herzl Camp has to offer. Waterfront, Amanut (arts & crafts), sports, t’fillot, and evening programs give this group a great introduction to the summer camp experience, while their creation of a special camp-wide performance is an annual highlight.

4th Grade Noar
Two weeks June 16 – June 30

This program gives Noar, meaning “youth,” two weeks to take part in all of Herzl Camp’s treasures- great evening programs, ruach sessions, and daily chugim (activities). Campers will have the opportunity to choose chugim like swimming, sports and amanut. With an emphasis on special tzrif (cabin) time, these campers make lasting friendships and memories.

5th - 6th Grade Chalutzim
Two Weeks - Alef June 16 – June 30
Two Weeks - Bet July 2 – July 15
Four Weeks - Alef/Bet June 16 – July 15

These “pioneers” experience Herzl Camp by focusing on learning new skills, gaining new friends and expanding their Jewish identity. An overnight camping trip, engaging programming and daily chugim (activities) make each day a new adventure. Campers that choose the four week session will be integrated throughout the program with the other two week campers and can look forward to a month of fun, unique programs, great staff and different experiences.

5th - 6th Grade Ha’atid
Three Weeks July 16 – August 6

“The future” of Herzl Camp and of the Jewish community, this program provides our 5th and 6th graders with plenty of room to grow and learn- be it through rock climbing, challenge course, swimming, sports or scouting. Great staff and creative programming make each day unique and full of fun.

7th - 8th Grade Tzofim
Four Weeks - Alef June 16 – July 15
Three Weeks - Bet July 16 – August 6

The Tzofim program provides a fantastic camping experience for both veteran and new campers. Campers have their choice of chugim (activities) such as lake swim, sailing and World League of Herzl Sports. Highlights of this program include leading the camp in our Fourth of July celebration or Ruach Fest and an out-of-camp overnight trip. This year’s bike trip along the Gandy Dancer Trail will create self-confident campers and lifetime memories. For those studying for an upcoming Bar/Bat Mitzvah, our talented staff is available for tutoring. Optional bike rental available for an additional fee.

9th Grade Kadimah - 1 week longer!
Five Weeks July 2 – August 6

This unique program places a strong emphasis on coming together as a group. Everything the Kadimahnicks do - climbing the wall, performing a play, leading a Shabbat and canoeing the St. Croix river- is about moving this group Kadimah, “forward.” These young adults become camp leaders while exploring their own Jewish identity.

9th - 10th Grade Nilakot
Three Weeks July 16 – August 6

This exciting NEW program provides an alternate three week option to our oldest campers. With a focus on personal growth, these campers will spend each morning in a concentration of their choice. Scholars-in-residence will provide in-depth training in one of three concentrations - Sports/Waterfront, Amanut/Photo, or Drama/Music/Dance - so that this unique group can hone in on their personal interests. With a focus on Zionism and “Tikun Olam,” repairing the world, this group positively contributes to camp while allowing these young adults to explore their personal beliefs.

10th Graders B’yachad - 2 weeks longer!
Six Weeks June 25 – August 6

This rich program is based off the three-rings of B’yachad. The first ring, Avodah (work) involves building and creating special projects around Herzl Camp. Community service, the second ring, provides the Yachers with an opportunity to work with both the camp community and in the town of Webster. The last ring, Leadership, is developed as the group participates in a leadership training program. The Yachers work hard and play hard “together” as demonstrated by their optional life-guard training program and their annual rock-climbing trip to Taylor’s Falls.

10th - 11th Grade Teva Trek
Four Weeks June 16 – July 15

This unique program provides the best of two worlds- participating in regular camp programming while experiencing the adventure of a lifetime on a wilderness trip. As they prepare for their 7-day camping trip of rock-climbing and sea-kayaking, Teva Trek campers will gain a sense of outdoor adventure and wilderness skills coupled with Jewish values. Teva Trekkers will also go on two exciting day trips; a high ropes challenge course at St. Croix and white water rafting down the St. Louis River. Participants are required to come equipped with several items of personal camping gear. A list will be provided in the spring.
