On the first day of camp, campers get to choose from a variety of chugim (activities) to participate in everyday. They learn a lot about teamwork in the many sporting chugim.
Chugim are electives and are truly what make the Herzl experience so fulfilling. Upon their arrival at camp, campers choose from tons of exciting activities from various interests including drama, sailing, rock climbing, fishing, canoeing, team sports, amanut (arts and crafts), wilderness survival, tennis, dance, volleyball, and much more! Campers participate in their individual chugim each weekday. Participating in chugim allow campers to meet other campers that may not be in their tzrifim (cabins). All chugim are taught by our qualified staff according to their talents, and detailed lesson plans ensure that our campers are learning skills that will stay with them throughout their lives. Chugim give campers a sense of accomplishment and pride, and an emphasis is placed on teamwork in all chugim. On Shabbat there are no chugim; instead campers have the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of camp activities. Look below to see campers in action at their chugim.

Water games is a favorite among Herzl campers. Each day the chug plays a new game or sport in the lake such as water volleyball, aerobics, basketball. Any level swimmer will have fun in water games.

In the canoeing chug campers learn all the fundamentals of canoeing from the C-stroke to the J-stroke to what to do if your canoe tips. They have lessons every day and then are allowed to test their skills on their own.

Madrich (counselor) teaches campers the proper way to do a forearm in the tennis chug. It doesn't matter what skill level you come in with; our staff will work with all levels to ensure that each camper is learning new skills and being challenged.

Older campers in Kadimah, B'yachad, and Bogrim can choose to participate in advanced amanut (arts and crafts). In this challenging chugs campers have the opportunity to paint scale versions of their favorite paintings. At the end of the session all of their paintings are displayed at the annual art gallery.
